Challenges of V4 Democracy Assistance - Event report

Visegrad countries should support Ukraine’s civil society financially and with their transition expertise, according to speakers at a roundtable discussion organized by CEU’s Center for EU Enlargement Studies (CENS) on May 14 as part of the Frontiers of Democracy series. The Visegrad countries, known as the V4, include the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland, have not shown a united front toward the situation in Ukraine in recent months.

Eastern Partnership beyond the Riga Summit - Position paper

On the occasion of the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga on May 21-22, 2015, the Center for EU Enlargement Studies published its position paper "Eastern Partnership beyond the Riga Summit: Rethinking Cooperation". The paper calls for the EU to approach the challenges both the region and its own policy face in a strategic manner. The new approach should be differentiated but should remain inclusive. Mobility, trade and investment, good governance and security should be at its core. It should engage and empower civil society, while pursuing an honest and clear communication strategy.

“The Visegrad countries know better than most that security, whether military, economic, human or otherwise, can never be taken for granted,” said U.S. Ambassador Colleen Bell in her opening remarks at the roundtable discussion “Security Cooperation in the Visegrad Group – Regional Challenges and Initiatives,” co-hosted by the U.S. Embassy and CEU’s Center for EU Enlargement Studies (CENS) on April 23. The Visegrad group, known as V4, is made up of Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.
