In times of rising interest of Eastern Neighbourhood and Caucasian countries to tie their bonds stronger with the EU,  CEU’s Center for EU Enlargement Studies (CENS) hosted a lecture entitled "The New Generation of Association Agreements between the EU and its East European Neighbours" on April 24, 2015. The lecture was delivered by Peter Van Elsuwege, Professor of  European Union law at University of Ghent, and  was chaired by Péter Balázs, Director of CENS. Professor Elsuwege dedicated his lecture to the prehistory of the new generation of Association Agreements (AAs) and their content, highlighting its unique nature and differencies from previous Partnership and Cooperation Agreements (PCAs). The geopolitical context, constitutional challenges for the effective implementation was also discussed . The lecture was followed by a lively question and answer session, touching upon a variety of issues: the competition between the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union for the neighbourhood,  motives of Eastern Partnership countries to sign and implement the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA), the exclusive charachter of the agreements and many others.
