The primary intention of the conference is to document the extent and reach of state capitalism around the world and explore its economic implications giving a special focus to the Central and Eastern European region and the emerging markets. The Conference aims particularly at exploring new concepts of understanding the role of state within the framework of Varieties of Capitalism.

The state as economic agent, regulator, developer has gained increasing attention during the last decade. The process was further accelerated during the financial and economic crisis of 2007-9. Reforms of the welfare state, direct state intervention in the form of nationalizations and other methods of crisis management, active structural policies have been some of the areas of increasing state activity. The aim of the conference is to gather information on the nature, scope and field of this activity: how state intervention may influence capitalist models.

Papers are invited from scholars of economics, political science and related disciplines. Our Conference welcomes high quality contributions proposing advances in the field of theory, empirics or policy.
Contributions to SVOC2015 should be related to the general theme of the conference “The Role of State in Varieties of Capitalism” with the aim of:

1./ understanding state ownership:
- privatization and state asset management,
- changes in long-term state ownership patterns (mixed ownership),
- crisis management and the bailing out of financial institutions and other firms

2./ analysing institutional settings of capitalist models and different policy set-ups:
- comparisons of institutions and policies among the different capitalist models of Europe,
- forms of hybrid capitalism in emerging markets,
- industrial policy,
- active structural policies and supporting institutions,
- employment and job creation,
- welfare system reforms,
- corruption and state capture,
- innovation, education and R&D in different capitalist models

3./ examining the emergence of the new developmental state:
- tasks of the new developmental state,
