Event Report - “Engagement or Containment: EU-Russia Relations in Turbulent Times and the Role of Central Europe”
On September 25, 2014, the Center for EU Enlargement Studies of the Central European University, in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Budapest, organized an international conference entitled “Engagement or Containment: EU-Russia Relations in Turbulent Times and the Role of Central Europe.” The keynote speeches were provided by Reinhard Krumm, director of the Department for Central and Eastern Europe at the Berlin office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, and Wolfgang Behrendt, desk officer of the Russia Division of the European External Action Service.
Speakers discussed how the European Union is seen from Russia, how the current security developments in Ukraine influence the role of Central Europe in EU-Russia relations and how energy (inter)dependency between Russia and the region will evolve in the future.
