Event Report - Experience of the Czech EU Presidency

On 25 November 2010 CENS in cooperation with IRES organized a lecture entitled “Experience of the Czech EU Presidency” presented by the new Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Hungary H.E. Helena Bambasová. Only few weeks away from the start of the Hungarian Council Presidency, H.E. Bambasová, previously performing the function of the Deputy Minister at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided the audience with first-hand experience from the period when Prague presided over the EU in the first half of 2009.

Event Report - EU Enlargement Perspectives - An Introduction to the New EU Enlargement Package

The European Commission Representation in Hungary in co-operation with the Center for EU Enlargement Studies and the Center for Arts and Culture organised a panel discussion about the EU Enlargement prospectives on November 8, 2010. The discussion was followed by a photo exhibition opening entitled: 'Southeast Europe - People and Culture'.

Péter Balázs, Director of CENS, stated in his welcoming speech the importance of EU enlargement and neighborhood policies, stressing the importance of Croatia, Turkey and Iceland for the EU.

Review of on-line media coverage of the 2010 EU Enlargement Progress Reports

On 9 November 2010 the European Commission adopted its annual assessment of the EU’s enlargement agenda. The document includes a 2010-2011 Strategy paper, the Opinions on the membership applications by Montenegro and Albania and seven Progress Reports on the candidate countries and on the potential candidate countries.

The Hungarian Europe Society in co-operation with CEU Center for EU Enlargement Studies (CENS) and with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung, Polish Embassy in Budapest and Euractiv organized a two-day workshop on October 29-30 at CEU about the first Hungarian EU presidency.
