Ukraine in many senses is a test case for the current global security architecture. With a full-fledged conventional military conflict unfolding in Donbas, Ukraine also epitomizes other kinds of battles. There is an ongoing battle to maintain resilience in the face of other types of hybrid threats. Reformist efforts in a war-torn country embody the battle for democratic Ukraine. The result of the other battle on Ukrainian soil - for contested notion of sovereignty - predetermines whether revisionism will reign over the world politics for the years to come.

This conference seeks to shed a light on the way Ukraine exercises its security now and copes with numerous security threats it faces. The focus will be on the shift in its security posture in the region and its strategic thinking. This is to be undertaken with the analysis of the policies of the major international actors involved. Is the EU, who has continuously stressed its post-modern facilities, equipped to withstand the traditional military threats on its borders? Is its normative power appealing enough to make difference? What are the limits of the US engagement? Are NATO’s responses in strengthening its capabilities on it eastern flank proportionate to the Russian assertiveness on its perimeter? Where are the boundaries of Russian revisionism?
