Simulation Game „Re-negotiating Peace”

The Center for EU Enlargement Studies (CENS) of the Central European University opens a call for students, graduates and young professionals from all disciplines who are interested in modern history, want to increase their knowledge not only on history, but also on peace-making processes, and wish to better understand the relevance of the First World War for today’s politics. The simulation is prepared by the German organization Planpolitik and co-organized with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

The simulation game takes place on October 18 - 19, 2014, at the Central European University, Budapest. Participants will take on the roles of members of the historical delegations to the Peace Conference from Germany, France, United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, Hungary and the United States of America. The groups will negotiate the most important questions of the treaties of Versailles, Trianon and Saint-Germain. Materials and summaries about the history of the negotiations will be provided in advance by the organizers.

Eligibility criteria

-          Enrollment in a university program in Hungary, or recent graduation
-          Interest in the topic and basic knowledge on WWI
-          Fluency in  English
