Event Report - "Israel' s National Security in a Dramatically Changing Middle Eastern Environment"

On April 3rd the CEU Center for EU Enlargement Studies hosted a public lecture entitled: "Israel' s National Security in a Dramatically Changing Middle Eastern Environment" by Dr. Dan Schueftan, Director of the National Security Studies Center University of Haifa, Israel.

Dr. Dan Schueftan discussed the security and foreign policy options and directions of Israel in the dynamic context unfolding in the Middle East. First he offered a critical analysis of the regional geopolitical mechanisms at play in the Middle East, focusing on the Arab Spring movements and their consequences for Israel's bilateral relations. Second, he brought into the discussion the importance of global players such as the United States the European Union, and also the United Nations, stressing the international community's critical role in stopping Iran's accession to nuclear power status. Finally, he shared his views on different security policy directions that Israel may take in the near future. A lively session of questions and answers followed his presentation.
