Throughout the turbulences of the past years, Germany’s role as a reliable and democratic European power has undoubtedly increased, and the federal elections of September 2017 are thus particularly important for the European Union as a whole as we witness populism is rising across the member states. The Visegrad countries emerged in recent years as a potential new power center of Europe with views often contradicting German preferences. How will German-Visegrad relations develop after the elections? In what areas can we expect cooperation and where will position remain at odds? What do Visegrad countries expect from the new German leadership?
